Alaska Electrical License Renewal

To renew your Alaska electrician license, it’s essential to meet the state’s specific requirements, which vary based on your license type:

For Electrical Journeyman Certificate of Fitness Holders:

  • Continuing Education: Complete at least 16 hours of continuing education within the 24-month period preceding your renewal request. A minimum of 8 hours must cover significant changes or updates to the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Renewal Fee: Pay a $200 renewal fee for the 2-year certificate.
  • Renewal Process: Submit a completed renewal application along with proof of continuing education and the renewal fee. If your certificate has expired for more than 90 days but less than two years, you must pay a $50 application fee plus the prorated amount of time remaining until expiration. If expired for more than two years, re-application and re-testing are required.
For Electrical Administrators:

  • Continuing Education: Complete 8 hours of continuing education related to the NEC every two years.
  • Renewal Fee: Pay a $170 renewal fee.
  • Renewal Process: Renewal applications can be submitted online via the MY LICENSE self-service portal. Ensure you have completed the required continuing education and submit proof along with your renewal application and fee.

  1. Complete Continuing Education: Finish the required hours of state-approved continuing education within the specified timeframe.
  2. Gather Documentation: Obtain certificates of completion for your continuing education courses.
  3. Submit Renewal Application: Complete the appropriate renewal application form for your license type.

  5. Submit Application: Send your completed application, proof of continuing education, and payment to the appropriate state department.
