Our Learning System is designed to be intuitive, however because it has a lot of things to click on it may be difficult for some to know where to begin. This post will show you a 30,000 foot view of the Learning System to give an overall understanding of the major features within it. Deeper, more specific answers are given in other posts, so please go through our “How it Works” page to read the other posts when you have some time.
The Learning System
The Electrician U Learning System is built for individual users, as well as businesses who have an entire group of users. This allows for an individual electrician to purchase and use the learning system freely on their own. The Business Learning System comes with administrator accounts and has the ability to issue training to their technicians based on the topics they want their techs to know about. Both the Individual Learning System and the technician sub-accounts of the Business Learning System function similarly, so for this article, we will focus only on the technician-facing part of the platform.
The Content
The Learning System has several different parts to it, depending on what you’re looking for. We’ve designed it to be an open library of content which you can browse through at your leisure. We understand that some people enjoy content differently, so we’ve provided audio, video, written, and course content for all users. This article focuses on only the items in the left side bar.
Left Side Bar

The left-hand side bar is your main menu when logged in to the Learning System. From here you can access the content of the system, including “Lessons”, “Videos”, “Audio”, “Articles”, and “Practice Exams”.
- Dashboard: This is your user dashboard, which shows your progress with courses, and a history of what you’ve done in the platform.
- How it Works: This is a collection of articles that talks specifically about the learning system, how it works, how charges, badges, and ranks function, and seeks to answer commonly asked questions about the platform.
- Lessons: This is the main learning portion of the site which contains individual video lessons that issue charges (points) for completing. Each video lesson must be watched in full to earn charges. After completing a video, there is a follow up quiz that assesses your understanding of the material.
- Videos: A collection of our YouTube videos, filterable, and searchable. Watching these videos earns charges as they’re watched. Not every YouTube video we’ve made is in here, we’ve collected a large grouping of them and are constantly adding more.
- Audio: A collection of all of the Electrician U Podcasts. This is a wide mix of content including general conversation on trade and industry topics, as well as audio versions of videos to listen to when you can’t watch something. Listening to these podcasts also issues charges.
- Articles: A collection of articles written over many different topics in the industry including Theory, Code, Materials, Tools, Lighting, Equipment, Safety, and anything else we decide to add moving forward.
- Practice Exams: There are several exams in this section based on what year of code you use locally. Some states and cities adopt different versions of code, therefore your test may be on a different code cycle than someone in another state. Because of this, we’ve created exams over the 2017, 2020, and 2023 National Electrical code. Exams are further separated by license-type, namely Residential Wireman, Journeyman, and Master licenses. These exams have timed versions and non-timed versions, and also come with printable PDF versions that you can print and take with you. Exams may be taken as many times as you wish. Exams also earn charges when passed and when aced.
- Feedback: This is an area where you can submit feedback about the learning system. While it is impractical to make every change that every person wants, we honestly listen and want to know how we can improve things in here. Have a feature you wish was in here? Dislike how a feature works? Let us know!
- Log Out: This allows logged-in users to log out. Note, once you log out this entire menu will disappear and will only reappear once you log back in.
Where to start
There really is no specific place to start journeying through the learning system, as of yet. While we are working on a structured learning path feature to be added to the system, really this is meant to be a library for you to search, scroll, and browse through topics which mean something to you – and to tell us if something is missing which you’d like to see added. If you still can’t decide, and need a recommendation we’ve put together this article for those wanting a little bit of a push.
