Do any of y’all in the electrical field actually use these laser distance measuring tools? I’ve tried many of them, different sizes, brands, displays, distances, but does anyone actually keep them in their pouches and use them day-to-day?

When I first started receiving distance laser measurers I didn’t trust them. Something about the inability to know FOR SURE that you’re getting an accurate reading never sat well with me. Then I started using them more often and realized they’re extremely accurate. And on top of it most of them have ways of saving your readings so you don’t lose track of your measurements.

Electricians use tape-measures all day everyday, mostly for cutting things or laying out materials. So a tool like this is not great for what we do. However if you’re trying to get an idea of how much conduit you need, how big a building is, or how much wire you’ll need to order this is a great tool for measuring, IF YOU’RE INDOORS.

The problem with these lasers is they almost never work outdoors. If you’re doing outdoor measurements in close proximity to where you’re at then they work fine, but once you start getting 50 feet away or further you can’t even see the dot anymore. Doesn’t matter what brand or style, they all do a terrible job outdoors. It makes sense though, its like trying to use a flashlight in daylight. But as an electrician I would use something like this outdoors more than I would indoors, if it worked.

Summary

I’ve never been so impressed with these that they revolutionize how I work, so I can’t give this a 5-star rating. It’s very well-constructed, it works as it should indoors, and gives very accurate readings. I think 4-stars are appropriate.
