You wouldn’t think an electrician would use a roofing square, but I use them constantly. In construction, especially in wood environments, we cut wood constantly, so having a square around is always a good idea.
Right out of the package I knew I would love this tool. The fact that it is expandable is it’s major selling point, but I’m also a fan of blacked-out tools. I can’t tell you how often I’m cutting a large piece of wood, like a 2” x 12” or even 2” x 8.” The pain is that most squares are only 6” long on each side so getting a line drawn all the way across the material means flipping the square around and drawing the line twice. With this new expandable square there’s an extra 6” flap that folds out to help you draw lines up to a foot long. This is extremely useful.
Other than the fact that the square is expandable there’s not much to say about it. It works just like any other square. There is one disadvantage that I see, where the hinge for the expandable flap rests it takes away the point that would be present on a normal square. This means the hypotenuse side is shorter if you’re using it on the long side to draw a line. This is a less common issue, however, so I don’t see it being a hurdle to owning one.
I had to check the tolerance on the expandable side and how it matches up with the machining of the side it’s common to. Everything seems to line up with precision. One thing I’d be worried about is not getting an accurate line if there was any wobble or loose tolerance in the extendable flap, but there’s not. This little guy is pretty “squared” away.

For what I use this square for, it is outstanding. The fact that it is expandable made me replace my other square so this now has a permanent spot in my bag. I give it a solid 5 stars, which is rare for me to do with a Husky tool. Well done doggo.
