Holy crap Milwaukee just sent me this massive Tool Cabinet to test out, and I’m blown away at how cool it is! This thing can house so much, and with options for power it makes it an awesome addition to anyone’s shop.

First Impression

Well, the first thing to note is how incredibly heavy this is. It came in two pieces, the upper and lower chests. The upper is roughly 300-lbs and the lower is around 400-lbs. So just getting them un-crated in my driveway and hauled to my studio was a challenge. Then once I got it TO my studio, the biggest challenge was lifting the upper section on top of the lower…by myself. I didn’t have anyone around to help, so I propped one side up on the lower section, and lifted (responsibly, correctly with my legs of course….) the other end up and slid it on and lined it up. Seriously, this was not an easy task and I do not recommend anyone attempt it. Get a friend to help you uncrate/unbox these things as well as stack it.

After everything was put together I was impressed with just how large it was. From floor to top (with lid closed) it is 64-inches tall. When you open the lid it’s 80-inches tall. Outside to outside, it is 56-inches wide and 22-inches deep. So you can tell, it’s no joke.

Functionality

Both chests (upper and lower) come with rubbery mats that line each one of the drawers. The drawers have soft-close ball-bearing drawer slides on them so if you try to slam the drawers shut they stop and ease shut on their own. The whole cabinet sits on 6-inch industrial casters which is necessary considering this thing is roughly 700-lbs! The caster design is outstanding because you push down to lock them, and push down again to unlock them, rather than having to stick your toes under and pull up to unlock. This is one of my favorite innovations that are coming on Milwaukee’s chests and cabinets these days.

Some of the cool features that this cabinet comes with are two 120-v plug strips with USB ports so you can charge batteries, plug in lights, stereos or anything else you’re heart desires. One of these strips is located on the top shelf of the cabinet, the other is on the outside about knee-height from the ground. Also, in true Milwaukee fashion, there are spots near the outer strip to hang your Milwaukee battery chargers from so they can stay plugged in and always ready to charge batteries from.

The entire cabinet is lockable with a code that you can program in rather than having to hold on to a key, however there is also a key-hole in it so that you can use a key if you prefer. There’s even a “privacy drawer” that has it’s own separate lock so you can keep your “secrets” in it while the rest of the cabinet’s drawers are in use.
