I have been very fortunate for the past couple of years to stock up on an incredible amount Milwaukee tools and batteries as well as attend and NPS19 (Milwaukee’s New Product Symposium 2019) where they showcase all of their new program products for the year – so I think that I have a pretty good perspective of what Milwaukee offers to the market. They just recently sent me a new set of compact three amp hour batteries so let’s see how they compare to the older CP3 packs.

First Impression

Right away, I notice that the shape and size of the new CP3AH is different than the older CP3 batteries. What they’re trying to do is make the battery packs a lot more compact and still have the same power. This utilizes a little bit different fuel cells on the insides of the batteries which are slightly larger so it ends up making the battery packs themselves a little bit wider but they are able to be a little more slimline rather than having to stack batteries like they were doing previously. They’re now able to get larger batteries in a single line which makes the battery a lot more slim, compact, and extremely light.

These new batteries still have a 3 amp hour rating to them. When using them in a brushless FUEL sawzall and a brushless fuel hammer drill, they both perform just like you think that they would. They have noticeably the same and possibly a little bit more power through heavy loads. These new packs will deliver up to 50% more power and they stay 50% cooler. When using the two CP3 packs the older style and newer style side-by-side, you can tell noticeably that the new CP3’s do you stay cooler although they do still heat up under extreme loads just like the old-style do, but it seems like it takes a little bit longer to get there. These batteries come with Milwaukee’s REDLINK technology which allows the battery to talk to the tool which increases its performance, and cuts down on overload protection. They still have a fuel gauge on them like all of their other batteries do nowadays. I still think that’s one of the best ideas on the planet, though I don’t know if Milwaukee can be the one credited with the original idea.

I this these batteries are awesome! Anytime you can take the same power and make it smaller and more efficient is a huge plus, and if there’s nothing that suffers from reducing the size and there’s things to gain, then even better. I say that these tools are worth the buy, and anytime Milwaukee comes up with something new, that’s a new version of an older tool they’ve made, there’s always a definite purpose behind it so I recommend you go out and get these batteries. I give them a 5 out of 5 stars.
